U-Boot Museum Fehmarn is a decommissioned German Navy submarine had been in service for 35 years and traveled almost 178,000 nautical miles in more than 2,100 days at sea. After two years of construction, the legendary submarine was completed in 1968 at the Howaldtswerke in Kiel. Until 1998, the U-11 was part of the 1st Submarine Squadron. Initially, the submarine was only used as a protection boat off the German coast. Today the museum has long been one of the island's visitor magnets. At that time, two cranes were necessary to bring the 560-ton colossus into place. The Submarine Museum opened its doors in the summer of 2005. Between April and October, the Submarine Museum is open daily between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. In the winter months it closes one hour earlier. Adults pay six euros to visit the submarine and the neighboring museum. Children up to 14 years pay four euros. The family ticket costs 17 euros.
