Rukmini Devi Temple is a richly carved temple, dedicated to Hindu goddess Rukmini, situated in Dwarka, Gujarat, India. The sanctum of the temple has a beautiful marble idol of Devi Rukmani, with four hands holding Shanka, Chakra, Gada and Padma. The temple is also known for its jal daan (water offering) custom where devotees are asked to donate water to temple. Rukmini is Lakshmi incarnate, a symbol of love and devotion to Krishna, a symbol of purity and humility as well. Visiting the temple and praying to her is a must if you visit Dwarkadheesh.
Architecture of Rukmini Devi Temple Dwarka
The present structure of temple is inferred to belong to the 12th century. The temple is said to be more than 2500 years old but it may have been reconstructed over time. It is a richly carved temple decorated with sculptures of gods and goddesses on the exterior with the sanctum housing the main image of goddess Rukmini. Carved naratharas (human figures) and carved gajatharas (elephants) are depicted in panels at the base of the tower.
Legends of Rukmini Devi Temple Dwarka
Rukmini Devi Temple is situated 3 km away from the main Dwarkadhish Temple on the banks of Bhagirathi River. According to the legend, once Lord Krishna and his wife Rukmini went to the sage Durvasa to invite him for dinner at Dwarka. He agreed on the condition that Krishna & Rukmini would have to pull his chariot instead of any animal. While pulling the chariot, Rukmini became thirsty so Lord Krishna struck the earth with his foot and Ganga gushed forth. Rukmini took a sip without offering Durvasa. Annoyed by her impoliteness he cursed Rukmini that she would be separated from her beloved husband. Hence Rukmini temple is situated away from Jagat Mandir.

The temple is about 2 km from the historic temple of Dwarka on the coast of Saurashtra in Gujarat, Western India. Rukmini Devi Temple can be reached by hiring a rickshaw or just taking a walk from the main temple. In order to reach Dwarka, you can take a train from Ahmedabad to Jamnagar and travel by road. Visitors can just as well fly into Jamnagar airport.
