Dhanidhar Fort - High Elevation Fort Surrounding Region of Rajouri.

 
Dhanidhar Fort was mainly built to keep the Dogra forces at a safe and strategic location and the fort solved the purpose, as whole of the surrounding valley was visible from here.The name of this fort is also significant with its high-elevation land portion. In ancient times, this fort was also used for defence purposes as well as to dump the grains that were collected as revenue from the farmers of the area. The Dhanidhar Fort of Rajauri was built in 1855 during the reign of Mian Hathu. It has been built using the ruins of the building of Jaral Rajas. Dhanidhar Fort was actually constructed to save the Dogra forces from the outsiders. The high elevation of fort was suitable for the kings to keep a close watch on the surrounding region for defence purposes. According to historians, originally this fort was ruled by the Hindu kings of the Pal dynasty, before the advent of the Muslims.

The climate of the area is semi tropical while major part of the year the climatic conditions are mild. The area receives heavy rainfall in the season of monsoon. The temperature in the summers is warm and this season is considered as most favorable for the visit to Rajouri. Winter season is also normal and is not very cold.
