Shri Chintaman Ganesh Temple Ujjain - Ancient and Biggest Shri Ganesha Temple

 

The ancient temple of Lord Ganesha is located in Ujjain, the religious city of Madhya Pradesh. This temple is at a distance of 6 kilometers from Mahakaleshwar Temple. This ancient temple is famous by the name of Chintaman Ganesh. There are three idols installed in the sanctum sanctorum of this famous temple of Ganesha. The biggest feature of the Chintaman Ganesh temple is that here Shri Ganesh is sitting together in three forms. These three forms are known as Chitman Ganesha, Ichhaman Ganesha and Siddhivinayak. It is said that out of these, Chintaman Ganesh removes worries, Ichhaman fulfills desires and Siddhivinayak gives Riddhi-Siddhi. It is also believed that such a wonderful and supernatural idol of Ganesha is probably nowhere else in the country. According to beliefs, this temple was established by Lord Shriram himself. All the worries of the person visiting here are over and they become worry free. A huge crowd of devotees throngs here on Wednesdays.

 

 

Shri Chintaman Ganesh Temple is the biggest temple of Lord Ganesha in Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh, India. The Ganesha idol enshrined in this temple is supposed to be swayamabhu (self manifested). Locally, Ganesha is also referred to as Chintaman. His consorts, Ridhhi and Siddhi, flank Chintaman, the assuager of all worries. The temple dates back to 11th and 12th centuries when the Paramaras ruled over Malwa. The finely-carved stone pillars in the assembly hall and the white shrine define the age-old sanctity of the temple. The temple deity Lord Ganesha is regarded as the Lord of beginnings as per the Hindu beliefs. Priests tell that to fulfill their wishes, devotees tie a vow here and also make a reverse swastika. One of the items like milk, curd, rice and coconut is offered for the vow and when that wish is fulfilled then the same item is donated here.

 

 

Many festivals related to Shri Ganesh are celebrated with great pomp in this temple. For example, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, a large number of devotees come to Chintaman Ganesh Temple to have darshan of Lord Ganesha. On the other hand, on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, women present their rakhis to Lord Ganesha in large numbers. Similarly, the Jatra festival starts from the first Wednesday of Chaitra month, and it is celebrated every Wednesday of this month. On the first Wednesday of this month, special makeup is done in the temple on this day. Special bhog is also offered to the God during this festival. Along with this, people offer bhog in Quitals on completion of their recognition here. It ends on the last Wednesday of Chaitra month. Even on Makar Sankranti, after fasting on this day, women offer dishes made of sesame seeds to Chintaman Ganesh.
