Nagaland State Museum - Heritage and Culture Museum Kohima

 
Nagaland State Museum in Kohima is a major tourist attraction in the state of Nagaland & displays the rich heritage and culture of Nagaland. This state museum is situated at Bayavu Hill which is only at a distance of one and a half kms from the heart of the town. Established in the year 1970 by Nagaland Government, this museum offers a 360-degree view into the culture, history and lives of Naga tribes. The museum displays artefacts of more than 16 tribes inhabiting the state including precious stones, old weaponry, Naga cuisine, traditional attires, necklaces, images of their culture and practices.
 
 
The highlight of the Nagaland State Museum Kohima is the models of the Naga traditional huts or morung of the different tribes. Some precious stones like coral, cornelian, and tourmaline along with artefacts made of brass and silver bells. The attire of these tribes that various Naga tribes wore during ceremonies as well as the musical instruments including a log drum and a single-stringed instrument called Tati.

October to May will be the best time to visit Kohima. The weather is pleasant and allows you to comfortably see the museum attractions.
