Takhani Rehmapur Wildlife Sanctuary - Areas of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas.

 
The Takhani Rehmapur Wildlife Sanctuary spreads over an area of 956 acres. Out of the 956 acres about 498 acres belong to the Takhani Village and 458 acres is a part of the Rehmapur Village. Declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1999, it is a true representative of the Ecosystem of the foothills of Shivalik range of the Himalayas. It is one of the scenic places of Hoshiarpur displaying the marvelous features of hilly terrains and beautiful landscapes. Locals and travelers visit this place in large number, especially in weekend.
 
 
The sanctuary is home to many rare and unique species of animals and birds. Some of the species of animals seen in the area include jackal, hog deer, black-naped hares, jungle cat, kalij pheasant, leopards, wild boar, Mongoose, pangolins, snakes, monitor and garden lizards etc. The area is also visited by several migratory and native birds of the area. Visitors to the sanctuary can enjoy amazing views of nature and wildlife in their natural habitat. The rich flora of the area also supports numerous varieties of insects and reptiles that thrive in the area. For bird lovers and nature lovers, the Takhani Rehmapur Wildlife Sanctuary is a wonderful place to visit.
 
 
People who are fond of variety of flora can see huge range of rare shrubs and plants which are difficult to see in any reserve. The variety of green vegetation includes Amb, Dhak, Krembal, Mesquite, Pipal, Siris, Subabul, Amla, Arjun, Bargad, Kikar, Neem, Khair, Chilbil Papri, Shisam, and Pipal. Mixture of Botanical and Zoological aspects had made this place widely allured for research and development of these creatures of nature. Before declaration of area as wildlife sanctuary some villagers had grown fruit trees of kinoo and mango which are now inside the sanctuary area. These are good for monkeys and variety of birds.
 
 
The Takhani Rehmapur Wildlife Sanctuary is connected by paved roads and can be reached by buses, taxis or private cars from any part of Punjab. Hoshiarpur the closest town to the sanctuary is connected to various parts of Punjab and the surrounding states. This sanctuary is almost 20kms from Hoshairpur city which takes 30 minutes from the main city. It can be accessed easily by trains and roads.
 
The Takhani Rehmapur Wildlife Sanctuary is best visited during the winter season when the weather is enjoyable and mild. So that wild animals come out from their den to take heat from sun hence tourists are able to see them easily. Sanctuary is open all days Monday to Sunday 06:00 AM - 06:00 PM for visitors.
