Vivekananda Rock Memorial - A Monuments as the Honour of the Great Saint and Leader of India.

 
Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a popular monument and tourist attraction in Kanyakumari, India's southernmost tip. The memorial stands on one of the two rocks located about 500 meters off mainland of Vavathurai. Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a place of great scenic beauty, historical importance and religious significance.
 
Vivekananda Rock Memorial boasts of great architectural excellence. It was built in 1970 in honour of the great saint and leader of India, Swami Vivekananda, who is said to have attained enlightenment on the rock. Swami Vivekananda who was a disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and the founder of Ramakrishna Mission.
 
 
Swami Vivekananda had visited Kanyakumari in 1892, a few days before leaving for Chicago for the World Religious Conference and had then visited the rock and meditated there for two days. It is believed that Swami Vivekananda, swami across the seashore in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu to reach the rock mid-sea and he meditated for three days and nights on the rock until he is said to have attained enlightenment there.
 
The rocks are surrounded by the Laccadive Sea where the three oceans Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea meets. There are two primary mandapams - Vivekananda Mandapam and Sripada Mandapam; both these mandapams have been built in such a way that the statue of Swami Vivekananda can be seen directly from Sripadam. A meditation hall known as Dhyana Mandapam is also attached to the memorial for visitors to meditate. The design of the mandapa incorporates different styles of temple architecture from all over India.
 
 
The Vivekananda Rock memorial also has religious importance as it is believed that this rock has the imprint of Goddess Devi Kumari’s feet and hence it is said to be blessed. Sripada Mandapam and Vivekananda Mandapam are two places to see here on the Rock memorial.
 
The Vivekananda Rock Memorial was inaugurated in September 2, 1970 by the President of India Shri V.V. Giri and dedicated to the nation. In the Memorial, there is a happy and harmonious blend of all the architectural beauty of the country. It is a symbol of unity because the whole nation wished, worked and contributed for it. Person from all states participated in its inauguration.
