Vishram Ghat is a serene place on the bank of the river Yamuna surrounded by plants, creepers and flowers. Pilgrims from all over the country visit Vishram Ghat to bathe in its holy waters and perform the traditional parikrama that starts and ends here. There are a total 25 Ghats in Mathura and the Vishram Ghat is the biggest and the most famous among them. Here Sri Krishna used to take rest with his friends while grazing the cows in the field. The place is spiritually significant where Sri Krishna used to play the flute sitting on the brunch of a Kadamba tree. This sacred Vishram Ghat is popular among the devotees as Sri Radha used to come here to collect water from the river Yamuna and also spend a delightful time with Sri Krishna. It is a bathing Ghat where the devotees of Sri Krishna come to take a holy dip in the river Yamuna.

Vishram Ghat is the main ghat of Mathura and is central to 25 other ghats. The Ghat is made up of marble stone and there is a large arch at the entrance. There are a number of beautiful temples that surround the Ghat. The Vishram Ghat is lined with elegant temples and some of the most important shrines of Mathura that includes - the Mukut Temple, Radha-Damodar, Murli Manohar, Neelkantheshwar, Yamuna-Krishna, Langali Hanuman and Narasimha temples. Usually, the devotees after a holy dip in the water start a Parikrama (circumambulation) of the temples and returned to the same place. Vishram means rest and it is named so because Lord Krishna rested at this place after killing Kansa, the evil demon king. This is the reason why a pilgrimage to Mathura is incomplete without a visit to Vishram Ghat and the temples dotting it.
