Nuremberg Choir Festival 2025 - Voices of Diversity in Germany
Every four years, the German Choral Association invites you to the German Choir Festival, which offers stages for vocal ensembles of all genres, line-ups and performance levels. The participating ensembles are given the opportunity to perform large and small stages in renowned concert halls in the respective host city. They can take part in the choir competition or sing in social institutions and church services also.
The first German Choir Festival in 2008, hosted in Bremen, second in Frankfurt am Main 2012, Third in Stuttgart 2016. The Choir Festival in Leipzig, originally planned for 2020, could not take place due to the corona pandemic, the German Choir Festival was last held in Leipzig from May 26 to 29, 2022 with around 350 choirs. The next host city will be Nuremberg From May 29th to June 1st, 2025, Under the motto “Voices of Diversity,” the German Choir Festival will bring the whole city to life for four days.
Choirs and vocal ensembles of all genres, line-ups and performance levels will let their “voices of diversity” be heard on the city’s large and small stages at the Nuremberg Choir Festival - from children’s choirs to men’s choirs, from choirs to vocal bands. The audience can therefore look forward to numerous opportunities to listen and also to participate. The core elements of the colourful choir festival programme include daytime concerts of all styles, singalongs and the choir competition.
DAY CONCERTS
The German Choir Festival offers all registered ensembles the opportunity to perform on the Choir Festival stages with their own program lasting around 20 minutes. All styles of music are given space - whether early music, classical, romantic, contemporary choral music, jazz, pop, gospel, show/musical, folklore/world music or even dialect. Both secular and spiritual programs will be represented. During the entire festival, all Choir Festival ensembles are invited to attend the daily concerts of the other choirs, to exchange ideas and to make new contacts.
- Admission to all day concerts is free for the public.
- Online registration for your own choir performances is possible until October 11, 2024.
SINGING TOGETHER
The German Choir Festival 2025 offers numerous opportunities to sing together - and not just with your own choir! In Nuremberg, everyone who wants to let their voices be heard can. The various singalongs invite you to join in every day: from the warm-up in the morning to the open singing at the traditional Nuremberg Männleinlaufen at midday to the evening's finale. There will also be opportunities for all children and young people to take part - because the choir festival always means a meeting of young and old.
- Almost all sing-along activities will be free of charge for the public.
THE CHOIR COMPETITION
The German Choir Festival's choir competition is characterized by the fact that the idea of comparison and encounter are equally important and the participating choirs are given the opportunity to exchange experiences. Each ensemble can compete in up to two categories. The majority of the categories are not based on choir genres, but on styles and musical eras - including early music/classical, romantic or jazz/pop. Since the competition is held in two different levels of difficulty, each ensemble can participate at its own individual level.
- The complete competition announcement can be found here.
- Admission to all competition concerts is free for the public.
CHORFEST PLUS CONCERTS
In addition to the varied daily program, all choir festival participants and the audience in the city can look forward to numerous special concerts and formats in which many outstanding national and international choirs and vocal ensembles will also be performing in the evenings. No choir performance will stand alone. And musical diversity is guaranteed - from early music to pop, from traditional to experimental, from discussion concerts to staged choral music.
CHOIR PERFORMANCES IN SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS AND CHURCHES
To ensure that Nuremberg is not just "all choir", the choir festival also reaches out to people who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend concerts and sing along. In addition to their stage performances, the participating choir festival ensembles are invited to sing in social institutions such as senior citizen facilities, neighborhood meetings and the like. The choirs also have the opportunity to contribute musically to church services and devotions in the city's churches.
